So I have am empty twenty gal she wanted some stocking ideas for a community tank

Well once you cycle it and everything I would do 8 panda cories, 8 harlequin rasbora and 1 honey gourami.

I don't really like gouramis prefer schooling fish

Well you could not do the gourami and add another school of like 8 neon or cardinal tetras.

That sounds good I'll go with the cardinal tetras

They really look great in a planted tank.

Tried planted before didn't work so well all my plants died

Oh That sucks they look nice in any tank anyway though.
