I went to the casino today!!

So the heaters i was talking about earlier (2 300w odyessa for 20 bucks) I figured, hey if they work, then its a great deal and if they dont then im only out 20 bones......well the house won today because i got them home set it all up (boxes looks real shady too) and plugged them in...light comes on for 30 or so seconds and then goes off never to return again..haha oh well, but just so you all know..this is why i do not go to the casino..i hate to lose money!!! back to square one!!!

update....the tank still has water in it!!!

So I was able to work it out, I took an electric blue jack dempsey in place of the heaters (20 bucks) and purchased 2 250 watt heaters for 20 bucks each that'll be here next week. I finally feel like somethings getting done!! After camping this weekend I should have some serious rockage!!!

Alright, so I finally have my heaters on the way (2x marineland 250w stealths). I will be looking into some PFS tomorrow and if i like it then ill grab about 200lbs (is this enough?). I drained the tank today using a sump pump and it took about 40 min haha I found the huge piece of dw i liked but they wanted 40 bucks for it so im gonna think about that.

your gonna need more then 500w of heat, I have 4 500s on the way for my 210

I must say i can not wait for this to be stocked... soooooo excited!

Also quick question, now some people do 50% water changes each week. Are you planning on doing this if so... how :p, it seems crazy insane..to change out 125g of water every week..

I hope not, that would be a PITA and a half day job.

I got a 210 that will be 50% or so per week changed out but I am setting up an automatic water change system so I dont have to do it.

105g a week, i wonder if it would be better to slowly do it throughout the week, almost like a leek on purpose.. and have something that slowly adds water that auto turns off after a certain point.. That would be a neat invention, an automatic water changer... one would make millions. Assuming you could get it to add the proper additives (prime or other dechlorinator / buffers etc etc).

the leak on purpose is the auto water changer, hole is drilled right at the max water line on the sump, fresh water is dripped into the tank, as it overflows the sumps dumps the water down the drain while constantly being fed freshwater.

That is a good idea, but where is the fresh water being dripped from? Is it being de-chlorinated first? And the water from the sump just going outside I guess? (dont mean to hijack just curious :p)

I use RO so thats where mine comes from.
to dechlor tap I use open air and a bubble box, the village doesnt use or plan to ever use chloramines so I am good there everything else just gasses off.

no I will have it plumed to my floor drain.

I had orginally planned to have 2 300w heaters but the brand decided to explode in some guys tank so i went twith 2 250's. I keep my house at 74 and it doesnt ever go below 70. Im going to give it a shot and see what happens as ive seen people heat similar larger tanks with about the same wattage. If i notice the heaters being overworked then ill throw in another one.

thanks for the recommendation on dw, dk!

Ill be doing water changes weekly of about 20%. Ill have two fx5's which is a lot of filtration so im not too worried. Im going to have the python hose so its going to hook up to the sink where ill be able to control the temperature and then once its filled i will add the dechlor and a nice treat. My tank is very close to a window so itll be easy when im draining through the fx5's.

You might want to consider adding the dechlor before you add the water back in.

I have indeed heard this and its def something I might consider. Haven't really figured it out yet. I also thought about getting one of the large rubbermaid trash cans, filling that up and then using my sump pump to pump it back into the tank, that way I can control the temp a little better, add the dechlor more accurate too.

just realized this thread, man u are so lucky, your tank is awsome, wish i had it, if u ever get rid of it could u ship to england haha, but well done what a bargain, hope to see more

Haha, I think shipping alone would break the bank, but I plan on this being a family hierloom so well see. Thanks though!
