However when I tried putting in CRS with the tetras they survived, but were constantly in hiding under my driftwood, so I put them in a shrimp-only tank.

Hiding spots are the key, I have a piece of DW with java fern and moss on it and that's where they hang out. I do see them out and about cleaning the sand, leafs, etc and even my Betta leaves them alone. Just missed get a pic of one RCS cleaning the shell of my Nerite lol.

I only keep nano fish with shrimp, i've had too many situations where the shrimp would all disappear. It works out for a while sometimes, I had rcs in a community tank with guppies and platys for several months until they disappeared.

The other bad thing about keeping fish and shrimp together is that you'll lose alot of shrimplets to the fish.
