from reading around on the internet I'm beginning to think maybe my new tank is not big enough for Oscar in the long run (from what I'd read in an old Oscar keeping book, a 4ft tank would be ideal.....obviously opinions change over time) so considering giving him to a new home and maybe go down the Cichlid community or dwarf Cichlid community route or maybe just a large general community tank

really unsure now as don't want to keep the Oscar in a tank that is ultimately not big enough for him

I have a few weeks until my new tank will finish its fishless cycle, so have some time to weigh-up the options

what are your thoughts please guys and girls?

I think that's a great size tank for a solitary oscar and plec, certainly not a common plec but a bristlenose would work.

There's a ton of options for that sized tank in the way of Central/South American and African cichlids. So I would narrow it down to a continent and start from there. I could type for a couple of hours of all the fish that would work.

yeah I see what you mean  tons of fish to mention

I have in mind the smaller American Cichlids, I will pop along to my local Fish store for some inspiration on Friday afternoon (finish work at 13:00)

after a trip the my LFS at the weekend I'm thinking along the lines of

A couple of Rams (very pretty fish, pictures don't do them justice)
Angel
Leopard Climbing perch (possibly! but need to read more about it)
my fully grown 7" plec (not sure what type he is but he stopped growing about 2 years ago)
some dither fish (undecided yet)

any thoughts/suggestions ?
