55 gallon fowler tank

I have a 55 gallon fowler tank . As of now i am running a canister filter. Have about 60 pounds of live rock . 2 days ago i treated my tank with chemiclean for red cyano and i got up this morning and all my fish were dead. I tested the water and everything is sky high. Can someone please tell me what might have happened, and do i need a protien skimmer. Ty

Did you cycle the tank?One thing about Chemiclean is that it is a bandaid solution. It will take care of it right then but it will come back. Best to reduce nutrients and increase flow. I personally think a skimmer is good for a SW tank but they have their break in time. IMO skimmer and LR is all you need. It is all I have used for over 15 yrears.

Mel, not to stray OT, but you doing use a sump or fuge?
