Aquarium Advice Newbie
Hi all. I currently have 6 male guppies and have noticed that the largest is being persistently chased by the smaller 5.
They follow him around and rub heads on his tummy - I think they are under the impression that he's a girl, despite him displaying otherwise. There is no violence, just guppy mating behaviour. I apparently have either a transvestite fish or very foolish ones!
We are planning to get a much larger 240 litre tank at Christmas, which would allow for adding a dozen females, but being a bit soft on my fish I wondered if anyone can advise if this behaviour is usual. I don't want him too stressed, and have been told that segregating him would be worse than the attention he's currently getting.
If 4 or 5 months is likely to stress him too badly we can get the new tank earlier, but I'd prefer not to rush into it if possible.
