So I got rid of my problem with diatoms but now there's green algae everywhere. As far as I know the tank has never been exposed to sunlight and I've been treating it with algae remover stuff and cleaning once a week but it won't go away. Doesn't help that one of my fish has fin rot (he's had it for months but he's alive). The algae keeps getting worse what should I do and how did it get there?

Hmm. Please post a picture. I'll bet that you have Blue Green Algae (Cyanobacteria), but I want to be sure.

For your plants: make a solution of 1 part bleach to 20 parts water. Soak your fake plants in the solution for about five minutes. Rinse your plants thoroughly and ensure all bleach has been rinsed off. Rinse again. Place plastic plants back in tank.
