Algae problem..

Can anyone tell me what type of algae this is? Is it harmful? How can I get rig of it?

doesnt look like algae , I had that stuff growing on my drift wood when my tank was young , it went away on its own eventually
 
+1 it will go away on its own. You can brush it off with a toothbrush if ya want but it will more than likely come back. It has no harm that I know of
 
Here is a pic of the stuff growing on my driftwood ... I attached some peacock moss to it but the stuff smothered it :(. I hope it goes away soon... It's been a month do far...

I had a similar prob bought a bunch of ghost shrimp and a few days later they seemed to clean the tank up for me
 
I have 5 cherry shrimp that are eating mine right now, I researched it and its a common problem when wood is not true driftwood, it's because the wood is still dying and that it will stop over time...
