Any advice for starting a tank?

I've been planning on getting a freshwater tank for a while now. I've only ever had one beta at a time, but kinda want a community tank. I have a low budget, and I'm not sure whether a want to breed fish at all. I also have well water, (for my house) and it was fine with the beta's but I'm not sure about other fish. I have a 20 gal. tank, and a spot for it, but my house is cold... and I have a pretty wimpy bubbler. Any advice?

I would skip the air pump, buy a hang on the back filter, and buy a heater rated for the tank size above yours. This will give you enough heating capabilities for your tank and optimize your filtration.
