any sugestions on cichlid combitions

i have a 55 gallon gallon tank that i am in the process of turning to planted and i finally decided that i wont cichlids, i think it would be cool to have rare ones but i dont know many species and i want a cool populaton in my tank and some realy nice colors any sugestions.

Have you researched any cichlids? Picking a continent will be a good start whether it's africa or central/south americans. If your looking for color start with lake malawi cichlids especially peacocks.

But if you do go with Africans stay away from Mbuna they eat plants.
South American dwarves are nice.
