in my pleco tank, just floating around the gravel is these clearish white cotton looking balls of something, but in the middle is a piece of pooh lol what is this stuff around the pooh an dwhy is it only on some pieces not all of it?

It is fungus. It will also accumulate on left over food.

Same thing happened occassionally for leftover shrimp pellets. Just use a net and catch them or siphon the gravel out. That should take care of the problem, as long as your water is good and u do pwc.

Actually sounds like you are over feeding and that is the food that is left over. When it begins to break down like that it is like an "ammonia" bomb. It should be removed and and the feedings cut down a bit. Just my .02 cents.

Depends on inhabitants but might also be eggs that have grown fungus. This can often happen. Either way, it'll be a pollutant so as people say best to net out.

It sounds like fungus/mold. Just vacuum it out. It may take a little while to go away. I had that about three years ago.
