I'm starting to wonder if my pair of Apistogramma panduro isn't a pair. The male grew at a pretty fast rate compared to the female. I haven't seen any eggs and have have them for months. The male is now starting to beat on the smaller one and she shows male colors from time to time. Any input?

I've been going through this too, i started with a pair that I thought was m/f, the female beat the crap out of what I though was a male but now as it grows I'm not sure. The new pair have done the dance and she's disappeared into the love cave for 3 weeks on 2 separate occasions yet no eggs. This is my questionable Lil one. Blue in color yet black bar???
Yours appear male and female.. i guess they don't always take ro each other??

yah, it's strange, technically speaking the fish in my pic is a female, based on black bar and chin, it has more blue than my male though? Gillie told me that apparently they can take on color to mimic the other sex, I've seen some apisto cac males with quite a bit of yellow..

Not sure.

How do you think these would sit with a couple of Rams in a 48G, and are they hardy?

a pair would probably kill everything in the tank if they had fry or even eggs, my paired female is a full blooded psycho. The one 7in my pic is in a 30l community with a pair of apisto cacs and it's been pretty mellow..

Thanks Brookster. How about a single male?

I'm not sure, I think it varies from fish to fish, like any cichlid really.. they do require semi-specific parameters though. If you have rams than you should be in the ballpark.

She looks really close to spawning, but his colors don't show the same for him.

Yah, it's like he's not into her?? That maybe why she stays in the cave so long? Waiting for him?

I figured I'll give her some more time.. hopefully it isn't a dude and she gives in before he kills her.
