Banana plant long stem!?

My banana plant is shooting this long stem upwards.Is it going to go to the surface and be a lily pad? My friend told me that it was about to bloom. Is this true? If not what can I do to make it bloom?

Mine just went to the surface and made a lily pad

It's sending a shoot up to make another leaf. If you don't want that, then trim that stem off at the bottom near the roots (the bananas)
