Best cichlids with firemouths

Just so you know, I don't plan on breeding them and want to get all of one gender, if possible.

Centrals are going to squabble amongst themselves its a fact of life, having all females really isn't going help that much. By getting all one gender you're missing out on all their courtship, spawning and parenting behavior which is one of best parts of keeping Central Americans. Otherwise you might as well just get boring old African cichlids if you want hyper active "pretty" fish.

I currently have one firemouth with 8 Barbs, 2 each of diffrent colors. I've had them since they were 1/2". Never had any issues. Barbs school together and my firemouth has his hiding place. I do know that once I add another firemouth (female), they would claim the whole tank and more than likely kill the tb. I also have a 55 gal. I feel like a 55 gal is pushing it on a single fm.
