Yeah really! Can't wait till tomorrow. I'm a hit the hay sack. See you around hopefully critter! I enjoy every bit of your knowledge (me being a noob only 8months in. :D)

I've been following as I have plans to get a Toby puffer and a snowflake eel. This enthusiasm is getting me even more excited about getting one.

For a cover, egg crate seems good, but does anyone think it would be possible to do pieces of acrylic with small holes as a cover? I'm thinking like pencil diameter holes all over the place. Seems like it would be impossible for an eel to get through, but still allow decent air exchange and circulation.

I personally love my egg crate hood. Your acrylic idea sounds like a great solution to keeping an eel in!
How do you plan on making lids though? You know, to clean the tank and feed the fish?

I'm very interested as I was thinking of putting bird netting over my egg crate to make it full proof for the eel...
Thank you for following this thread! It's good to talk to others with good ideas about eel lids!

Oh wow!

So you think if I keep the snowflake eel well fed (1in silver side a day.?) then he will have no desire for testing the egg crate right? Or is that not full proofed?

I'm soo paranoid because I used to have a freshwater eel that would constantly test my tanks lid until one night it jumped out. I woke up, there he was, put him back in and he lives.

But yeah I just don't want the top being tested all the time because it is my room and I watch the tank at night with the moonlights.

I have an acrylic tank, so it has two holes up top. I'm envisioning cutting two pieces of acrylic slightly larger than the holes and then just drilling a bunch of holes in those. I think it should be easy to lift for feeding and to remove for water testing or cleaning and water changes.

Here you go. Like I said zip ties egg crate and a heted knife.

Got my snowflake at Petco for $13!They took off $7 while it was already half off! He looks to be 9inches and is very ly active in the bag! H keeps poking his head out of the water and trying to slither up the bag(keeps falling back into the water.

I got him for a great price and will be acclimating him until 9:00 tonight, and when I will let him in. His colors are awesome! Yellow nostrils and the white beak like most are awesome.

Am I correct about taking the perimeter of the tank? When eels try to escape they do it on the sides of the tank correct? Not smack dab in the center of the tank right?

And I have tons of flow at the top of my tank! Will this keep him away from the surface and deter him from trying to jump?

Just extra measure questions.!.!.......! :D:D:)

EDIT:::::

JUST dropped the bag into the tank and am off to run errands until 8:30. Then I'll start adding water to the bag 1/2 cup every 4 minutes till the bag is full. Then empty the bag back to half and repeat b4 I put him in.

Sound good?? No special drip acclo or anything is needed right?

I have only been in the hobby about a year and a half but I read all day....... I'm also only 13..... Lol but glad to help! If you have anymore question feel free to ask!!!!

OMG! you are 13! You are very smart! Haha. I'm 16 and I research saltwater everyday on the Internet. You were able to answer a lot of my questions! Wow:D

I will drip acclimate I guess... When I get home.
I still feel as if I haven't thanked you enough!
