Just wondering what kind of sand would be the most beneficial
Preferrably an off white sand

Anything at home depot? For reasonable price...

How much would.i.need for a 75 gal?

Play sand would work. Just rinse the heck out of it. I used while silica sand in my tank. Got a 100lb bag for 10 bucks

I have studied and studied this and everyone says pool filter sand is the best and play sand is really good to. I finally broke down and ordered the expensive stuff and went with eco complete for my Cichlids

Yea i always see positive comments about the PFS
Do you rinse that thoroughly as well?

Also just step by step...

Rinse sand
Add sand
Add water
Let it settle
Turn on filters
Test water
Add fish if absolutely safe

Does that sound reasonable?

sure sounds like everything Ive seen. alot of places reccomend you rinse it several times though until the water runs clear. You can even search it on youtube and there are many videos of people rinsing and putting in in there tanks

Well I've just gone through replacing play sand with pfs, it was surprisingly easy, even with the fish in there.

Just make sure you rinse anything that you add to your tank.
No reason not to.
