Bio Media

I have a penguin 330 but am not using either of the two media compartments. I'm planning on using at least one for some additional bio media. What would be the best kind for me to try? I have seen some made of ceramic and others of lava rock. Should I put the bio media in both compartments or should I go with more chemical filtration in one? I just have the pre made penguin filters in now. Thanks.

Isn't extra bio always a good thing? I wasn't too sure about the carbon, but would extra bio be a waste?

The wheels are pretty good for oxygen liking bacteria, more bacteria will grow in your substrate.
