I am getting green algae on my live rock. It has spread to bright green spots on my base rock and a little on my sand. I have been leaving the weak t8 light on about 12 hours a day for the purple coraline ( trying to get it on the base rock).

It is a 55 gallon with only 2 fish. Only ro/di.

What is the best way to take care of it? Time for a cleanup crew? Less light?

Thanks.

I hope to go reef eventually. Any reef safe alternatives? I hope in 6-12 months to add some soft beginner coral like mushrooms etc.

check with your lfs they can advise, you should be ok with snails, i just started a 29 gal fwlro and will be setting up a 65 gal reel in the future. The herhit crabs are fun to watch good luck Joe.
