Cattails

I just moved into a house with Cattails growing in a pond. What maintenance is required? Do they need to be cut back in the Spring after they turn brown? If so, where do they get cut....below the water line or above? I need as much info. as you can provide on Cattail maintenance.

You can cut the brown stems at the water line any time.

If you want to reduce the plants in an area, cut the green stems below the water line to kill the plants.
