So ive got a bunch of caulerpa in my fuge, and i keep reading about its downsides, that it can go "sexual" and thats causes release of bad toxins and such, but i havent read on how to identify if this is happening....Can anyone tell me what to look for, also how can you prevent it from doing this, and if it does can these toxins promote cyano growth or anything like that? thanks for the help

I am purely going by tidbits I have seen here and there but- If yuo see the macro getting translucent it is going sexual. It will release all the nasties it removed back into the tank making it crash. Hopefully someone else will chime in and add or correct on this.

best way to keep it from going sexual is keep it lit 24/7 :)
it will start turning a clear whitish color when it does do this !
keeping it pruned helps as well :)
ive had it for a long time under 24/7 light with out any issues !

The toxin is called Caulerpin. It doesn't promote algae growth that I know of. It is poisonous to animals though including coral & fish. Carbon removes it just about instantly.
