Ceramic Rings

I have a 150g tank and will be ready to cycle soon. I have about 100lbs of LR and a 50g sump. I also have two eheims 2217 and wanted to know if I can fill them with ceramic rings and run them to makeup the lack of LR. Thanks.

BTW it's going to be a FOWLR tank and maybe a few hardy corals.

I would probably skip the canister filters and just add rock a piece at a time when you get some extra cash. your nitrates are going to be high unless you pull the canisters apart and wash them out on a regular basis.
