I was wondering what the ideal temperature for the 'see-through' cleaner shrimp is? I currently have them in a tank with no heater, but would like to move them in with my tropical community tank. They have a temp about 82°f. Would they be okay? or would they be better off with the goldfish in the non-heated tank? Hmmmm.. actually , the goldfish might eat the shrimp. Any ideas???

Hey HollieO. I have Ghost Shrimp, too. Don't worry much about temperature. Palaemonetes kadiakensis and Palaemonetes paludosus are the 2 species that are commonly sold in stores. They're both hardy species, native to the USA, and can tolerate living in colder states (in a quick search I see Ohio, Virginia listed). They can also tolerate warmer water. I had them in my 55 gallon while I was de-ick-ing it at 82-84 degrees, and they were fine.

So, put them in with fish that won't eat them. I'd advise the tropical tank, myself.

Here are a couple of links that mention them in their natural US habitat:

No problem. Just to back it up: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=1468

Liveaquaria states they can survive in temps from 68-82. They're usually conservative...

(They also say ghost shrimp need a 20 gallon or larger aquarium!! That's overkill if you ask me. They stay pretty small.)

BTW, my LFS has a new stock of really cool miniscule red cleaner shrimp that are each about .25-.5 cm in length. Like ghost shrimp, but expensive--$4.50 each! I'm thinking I might buy a couple of them to see what they look like when they grow up... If I do, I'll send a pic.
