I got some base rock from a LFS..what do I need to do to clean it? I dont know any specifics on it as to how long it has been out of a tank...looks like a long time. I thought I would just rinse it with hot water?
If it's dry base rock, it's dead base rock... I just bought some too...I soaked mine in a bucket of tap water, spayed it hard all over with a hose, rinsed again, and then placed in the tank.
I usually boil mine for about 3-5 minutes to make sure there isnt anything living on it. Who knows wut kind off microscopic critters r hangin out in the LFS and on the rock. Then rinse it in a hard stream of tap water to get any dirt or anything else stuck on it off.
i would rise the rock really really really good. I cleaned my base rock what i thought was pretty good, and it still had a bunch of debris and soot in it. I wish i would have rised it out a lot more because even now, they make my tank cloudy when i move them.
