Anyone know how to effectively get green spot algae off an acrylic tank without ruining it? I tried my acrylic-safe scrubber, but little to no progress.

You need to use the scaper edge of the acrylic safe scrubber. The scrubber part is worthless on GSA.

It takes so elbow grease but after a while you'll figure out the easiest motion. It takes me no time to do it now.

I find the best way is to start at the bottom and scrape upwards.

I never scrub my tank. I just keep enough snails (nerites) so that they keep the acrylic clean. I made the mark of zorro in a former tank and never scraped again.

Elbow grease! :)
'Modern' acrylic really takes a good deal to scratch these days. I have a long brush scrubber I use on an acrylic tank I keep an F8 puffer in, and it's absolutely fine :)
