My female convict, Lucy, finally laid eggs!


Also, is it true that it only takes 3-5 days for them to hatch?

I've decided to also make this a fry journal. I will update every once in a while.

OK, so there are little black dots forming inside the eggs! I have a question though. Some of the eggs have turned white... Are they unfertilized?

I think that means they are bad. how many are white?

yea ones that are white havent successfully fertilized i believe, and they'll fuzz up and get eaten... it happends, nothing you can do about it... the others should be fine though, congrats!

So only about 10 of them were white. But I guess the rest were fine because I now have about 100-150 free swimming fry!

How long does in normally take for wigglers to become free swimming?

About 5 day to a week. Mine were free swimming in 6 days.

And you dont feed them until they are free swimmers right?

Correct. Mine seem to feed themselves though (eating off the sponge filter and stocking on the other filter) ... I just put a little food in for them when I feed the parents though.

Since i dont have panty hose at the moment i just used the corner of a whisper filter cartridge and its seems to be working well and its even catching debris in the floss!
