1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
Cotton-like, fuzzy, flaky stuff coating the whole fish. After they have been like this for a few days they start swimming funny and eventually I find them stuck to the filter either dead or half dead.
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
I don't know
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
20 gallon. about 4-5 months
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
Aqueon Quiteflow 10
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
To start with I had 2 Dwarf Gouramis, 1 small plecostomus, 2 dalmation mollies, 2 red minor tetras, and 2 red platies.
These fish have died in the past few days after I started noticing the fuzzy white stuff coating them:
2 red minor tetras, plecostomus, and 1 dalmation molly
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
Once every 2 weeks, did one about 5 days ago. We don't have a heater yet so my boyfriend dumped warm water in which I told him not to do and I think that may have weakened them and maybe caused them to get infected faster (?) Usually change about 30% at a time.
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
1 dalmation molly we've had for 4 months. 2 gouramis, other molly and plecostomos we had for 3 months. 2 platies and 2 tetras we had for 2-3 weeks.
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
No
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?
Basic flakes. no
Basically I have given up hope on any of these fish surviving as they are all infected with this fuzzy white stuff. My question is, how should I proceed after all these fish die? I want fish but I don't want them to all die again. I've spent so much money already on these fish I don't want it to go to waste but it seems like every time they get infected with some disease! If I do decide to add more fish to the tank, should I empty all the water and start new?
