This may sound like a horribly stupid question, but it's been bothering me. When I remove my filter cartridges from my filter all this stuff pours out from the water in ther and clouds up that side of the tank and that cartridge was fairly new( I took it out to treat ick). Anyway, what to do to get rid of it? And make sure it never comes back.

Thanks

I have the penguin 170. All I do is be sure to take it out slowly, and then put it into my bucket full of old tank water (during a waterchange). Then I just shake it around in the water until all of the stuff comes off, and stick it right back in.

How to prevent it? Well this is just stuff that got "cleaned" from your tank water. Perhaps you could reduce feedings a bit to eliminate the amount of waste.
