So set up 28 gallon tank with live plants and started a fish-less cycle.
Added the pure bacteria balls.
Local aquarium asked about my readings when I was there and they are
Ammonia 2
Nitrates 50
Nitrite 4
PH 7.4
He advised to get some danio so opted for 5 zebras.
Just done a 25% water change after 48 hours so what next?
Do I test now daily and let it take course until the ammonia and nitrite disappear?

So it looks as though you've gone from doing a fishless cycle, to doing a fish-in cycle? :)

The cycle is only complete when you can reliably get: ammonia=0, nitrite = 0, and nitrate more than 0, hopefully somewhere under 40.

Since you've added fish before the cycle is complete, you'll have to complete a fish-in cycle. Here is a link with instructions I just learned about cycling but I already have fish. What now?! - Aquarium Advice

Thanks. Seems easy enough.
