well you see I got a water tester for all sorts of things but the problem is it has gH and all my calculations are in dH I didnt know if they are two completly different things or just another way of messuring hardness.
If anyone know I need to figure out what 14 dH would be in gH
TIA

Just to clarify here: there are two major methods for reporting water hardness; german degress, and ppm (or mg/l..they are interchangable)

As Tom says, to convert degrees to a ppm value, multiply by 17.9. To go from ppm to degrees, divide by 17.9.

To further confuse you, sometimes carbonate hardness tests read in meq/l.
To make life easier, I use this online converter: http://www.saltyzoo.com/SaltyCalcs/AlkConv.php?units=DKH&dkh=8
