Hi everyone! I have a 10 gal tank and it just finished its cycle :) I noticed diatoms on the glass and I was wondering what should I do? I have the light on for about 3-4 hours a night. Will it turn into green algae?! Thanks!

I had brown diatoms in my tank for about a month until I added live plants. Whether it was adding the plants or just the time frame I don't know. I like to think the plants won-out and ate all the plant food

It's one of those crappy things that come with a new set up. Fortunately they are self limiting and as soon as they use up their food source (silicates) they will die off on there own. It is harmless just very annoying to you.

Thanks everyone! I will wait for them to go away. Also, what are silicates?
