eel tailed cat fish

I am from Australia and not sure if you have this fish but i have adopted this fish from someone who cared little about him. Due to the size of him i was unable to place him in the aquarium to temp adjust him, how much will this affect his survival? He came from a tank that was infested with huge amounts of green algae, but i added all the necessary chemicals and made sure the water was correct.

Not familiar with that fish, but hopefully he'll do okay without any acclimation - it's not usually good idea to skip that, however.

Any idea how big of a delta the temperature was?

Photos of the fish would prove helpful on the ID. Maybe the previous owner did not know the correct name.
