electric blue acara tank mates

we picked up a 35 hex for my boyfriends elderly parents. he wants largish brightly colored fish in it to make sure they can see them. i would have normally stocked this shape tank with schooling fish so im trying to find things we can agree on. i saw an electric blue acara at my lfs and am seeing mixed things about tank mates. i was going a fee ways in my thinking with it, some larger corys, surpae tetras, and something else, or the guy at the lfs said i could do yellow labs so maybe some other things like that. help pls

Keep in mind the Aequidens pulcher can reach 6 to 7" . A hex tank just don't have the room for them.

the guy at the store said they only got about 4, but then again he was also trying to talk me into goldfish

I.just got 4 and the largest is close to 3", they're all over a 4', 75 gal. Tank..
