Electric Yellow color?

I am in the process of setting up my first cichlid tank, and this weekend I purchused 6 electric yellows. Three are bright yellow and three are silver almost white with a hint of yellow... the guy at the lfs said that it is normal for females to be like that when they are small (1.5 inches) and they will turn yellow when they get older. I am now slightly fearful I have 3 poorly bred and not so yellow electric yellow cichlids which I am stuck with. Is there hope for them to change?

The brightest most intense yellow labs I ever had came to me as whiter than a bleached-sheet white. They turned yellow a couple of weeks later.
