We have a local shop that likes to bring in more unusual fish from time to time that has Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox). they seem like good, healthy animals and are interesting to watch there, but I have no experience with them. Online sites that sell them make them sound like the perfect fish species, but then, they're wanting to sell them.

Does anyone have experience with this species? Pros and cons?

Thanks

Melanotaenia praecox are a darn near perfect community fish. They even aren't prodigious shrimp hunters. The main issue is they will never, every, get food that hits the tank bottom. They seem to pretend the bottom does not exist. They will look all around the tank and are fun to watch. And they are hardy. I like em.
