Hi folks!

I've truly enjoyed the company of my three Shebunkins for three years now--Gulpy, Jumpy and Blimpie.
Jumpy (you know the nervous type) has had a bump growing on his side for about a year. It's It's been getting bigger over that time frame.

He's in seemingly no pain. The first year he'd chase one of the others till he tired--two hours--but then would be fine for weeks--no obvious signs of abrading skin against gravel, etc..

Thank you kindly. I first had Shebunkins 25 years ago and why did it take me so long to get more?!?

Scott

It looks like a tumour, they are common in goldfish.

Only real options are either surgical removal by a vet or just leaving the fish to live out its life as best it can. If it gets to the point the fish can't swim or eat then euthanising the fish would be the best course of action, but it sounds and looks like you are a long way from there.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

The fact it has grown over a year would suggest it's a tumour. As Aiken mentioned, you can sometimes find a vet that will cut it out, but most fish die during the surgery. I would leave it and when the fish has trouble eating or swimming, then euthanise the fish. Until then, enjoy the fish :)

I concur with Aiken and Colin with the tumor diagnosis. Sadly, because of all the manipulation goldfish have gone through in order to get the colors and shapes, they are prone to tumors. Because of it's location, it looks more to be in the flesh rather than the guts which can mean the fish can live a long time with it with no real bad effects. Unless the fish stops eating, I wouldn't do anything for it. (y)
