Filtration help

So here is my question I have read many sides. My question is I’m currently cycling my 55 gal tank. ( will be reef) I do unfortunately have a wet/dry filter with sump. I removed the bio balls and have added rubble to replace. Normally you put a protein skimmer in the sump. I have a HOB Octopus-800 which I believe is rated for 75-100 gal tanks so pretty big. Can I hang on my actual tank and still be efficient? I will also when get cycled be running a single and dual reactor in the sump part of the wet dry. Is this okay? Or not

You can hang it on the side of the display or the sump. The plan sounds just fine.
