they need a large tank and can easily get over 2 feet long, would like a pvc pipe or something to hide in, can be in a community but only keep 1 per tank

(never had one but this is from a book i have)

I had one a few years ago and he was the best fish I had. I had him in a 3ft wide community tank and feed him bloodworm every day by hand, I had no probes with him, I owned him for almost 2 years without him eating any of my little tetras and he grew to just over 13inc. But sadly I lost the tank in the split from the mrs. But I have seen fire eels as big as 26in and where in a species tank with other fire eels and they seemed to get on very well

Ok, but I just read that 2 eels should not be kept together unless you have a 300 gallon aquarium that is a driftwood labyrinth, and even that might not be enough. Yes, when the eels are young they can get along fine, but adult eels can be very territorial and just plain aggressive.
