I have a 20 gallon tank. I feel I have did the appropriate set up. I am a newbie.

Set it up
Put in the correct "stuff" (water conditioner and bacteria supplement)
Waited 5 days, got water tested
Water tested fine
Temp at 76

Started out with a 3 guppies, 2 platys,2 molly's, and albino catfish

Guppies and molly's have died at different times. Got water tested every time and tested fine.

Have done one water change. About 25% water change. Got water tested, came back fine so I purchased a hachetfish. He is now dead. I am now left with 3 fish. 2 platy's and the catfish.

Can the platy's be bullies?

Not sure what to do next?

Cycle the tank... need to complete the nitrogen cycle. Read up and get yourself am api liquid test kit.

He said he waited 5 days and the water tested fine, doesn't that mean his tank is cycled or no?

I'm a slight newbie too, so I'm just curious

Nope. Unless he used enough media from an established tank, in my experience, it is not possible to cycle an aquarium in 5 days. This includes adding store bought bacteria.

When you say water is fine, do you mean you have zero nitrates and nitrites?

What is your water temperature?

What is your process to acclimate fish after bringing them from the store?
