I set up a planted 20 long about 4 weeks ago. I've been reading about using, not using carbon in filters. Instead of replacing the carbon should I just replace with ceramic rings or bio balls or something else?

I just use Matrix or an equivalent bio filter material in my C series filters . Carbon is good for getting meds or containments out of the water . I use crushed coral too to help keep pH in range and it is a bio material too.

I don't see anything wrong with running carbon. I've never had it affect anything in the tank. I think there's an argument to be made that if you use tap water in your tank it might be a good idea to run carbon because a lot of people don't know what all is in it.
