What are tank mates for a fantail

How large is your tank?

Depending on the size you could add another fantail or other type of fancy goldfish. You will be able to add one more if your tank is a 30 Gallon. A general rule is 20 for the first fish, 10 for every subsequent. This is for rectangle tanks, not hexagons or other weird shapes XD. Try to stay away from tall tanks as they have less surface area.

It won't be an option to add another goldfish to your tank if it is less than 30 gallons so you could add a small school of white cloud mountain minnows, a few snails (nerites do best in coldwater tanks but your tank is probably room temp so mysteries work too), or rosy red minnows. Those are my suggestions but there are several others that work too.

Remember to research as to the individual care of each species you decide to keep. I cannot stress that enough.

Ahh thats a nice surface area... You could probably get away with two goldfish total.
