I plan on putting killifish there.

How many is a good number?

gonna do a fishless cycle so I have time to choose which one? Can you give me an estimate for the amount of killi to stock the tank for each type

There are tons and tons of killi's! For a ten? A pair of any fundalopanchax.. That's it though.. That's still pushing it.. The females like to swim all over the top and the males chill in caves..

I thought it was 1 gallon for every 1 fish. Mistaken?

Brook steer right on this one, the 1 gallon per fish rule is a huge myth, use AqAdvisor it's recommended by almost everyone.

or I think it was every inch of a fish, a gallon is sufficient

Clown killies are always a nice option for 10g tanks. Another nice option would be least killies, although technically they're not really a killifish.

lampeye killies would work in a 10 as well. same with Leptolucania ommata, which are usually captive caught. I find them frequently for sale on aquabid. Aquabid has a section for just killies, and also check out the native species section for wild caught killies.
