i only use granite rocks in my tanks, i heard they were safe, and theyre the easies to access, anyone else know of any kinds of rocks i can use?

Some rock (limestone & sandstone comes to mind) will dissolve into soft water and raise your pH and KH. Depending on your water, not all stones are safe. <OTOH, if you have zero KH in your water, it is good to add some carbonates to maintain pH stability, so limestone is good in some case ....>

If you have hard water, then pretty much any clean rock is usable. People with soft water should stay away from carbonaceous rocks unless you are deliberately changing your water chemistry. Slate is prob the most widely available inert (in aquarium) rock.

If in doubt, you can test by:
1. Adding a few drops of strong acid (HCl or muriatic acid) to see if the rock bubbles, or
2. soak the rocks in a bucket for a week or so & see if the water pH (& KH) changes.
