Recently I have noticed green sand growing on the top later of my 55g planted sand bottom.
2 15w fluorescent bulbs on the side with green sand.
The tank gets about 10 hrs of light a day.
Stock: 4 bolivian rams
7 harlequin rasboras
1 angelfish
1 bristlenose albino pleco
Cyanobacteria, not algae, grows on everything, too much light for two long, physically remove as much of green, stir up sand an keep light off for 3 or 4 days or cut light back to 4 to 5 hours aday for a week or so
I am battling what looks like the same thing and couldn't smell anything until I pulled out a air bubbling decoration to clean it and then I could smell it get some of it on your fingers if it's Cyanobacteria it will be real slimy
