Hi all. I setting up a 5.5 gl with a sponge filter for a beta tank where would be the best placement for the filter and the heater? Also what would be a good tank mate for the beta? Thanks for the help.

I have a ten gallon Betta tank and also agonized a bit over filter and heater placement. What I have found is that with water circulation it hasn't mattered that much. Every Betta I have kept has been a bit different in personality. Some are more aggressive than others. I currently just have Cory catfish and Mystery snails and he mostly leaves them alone...

Shouldn't matter, water that is hotter will move toward less hot water because that's how thermodynamics works, and any bit of flow from the sponge filter will create enough movement to evenly heat the tank. I could only see problems if your heater is substantially over sized.
