If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
After playing for about an hour or so searching for Iwagumi aquascape cubes I believe the setup that I want will heavily rely on uneven topography and 2 contrasting sand types.

Something along these lines:

NowI will need help on how to make sure the sand doesn't slide and acually stays "3-D".

Any hints?

I'll be honest.. I'm not that big of a fan of faux decor. It's better than nothing but with a little digging around, you can find natural stone to achieve what you're going for. I started with the fake stuff myself but in hindsight, i wish i didn't.. But hey, we all learn and taste change along the way..

My issue is that for the last 2 weeks I have been looking for stones locally, andI reallycan't find anything comparibleto what I am looking for. Having at least one well defined cave is important to me and I just can't find it. Hopefully, in a near future, these can be replaced by the real deal. I just can't find it.:(

Ooooooops it must of worked,i kept trying so sorry for all the duplicates doh !!!! Lol ;-)

Very nice!!

Yeah, it is very frustrating to put all this effort and end up with a plastic cave on my tank. I am going to return the fake rocks and work on getting some real ones.

Thank you :),yeah the fake ones look okay but i went for real slate rock because i wanted a natural look in my aquarium

Depends what type.. Ghost shrimp, bamboo shrimp(not sure of bamboo shrimp),Japanese shrimp would be fine! Or a larger kind if you find it.

I ended up getting a box of red shale that with a little bit of creative time will work better than the fake stuff.

The box is 11 inches long. I'll make some arrangements and share within the next hour.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Looks good :) much better than the artificial decor IMO.

As for the comment on adding shrimp to a betta tank, i don't think that's a good idea. I had to find out the hard way that they don't get along. My male betta made short work of some ghost shrimp. And my female betta killed my amano shrimp.

The first few images should have the smaller rock almost completely covered with sand. White paper=white sand.
