so I have a 10gal tank with seven shell dwelling chichlids (neolampralogus multifaciatius) and I've been noticing some very odd behavior. I had just recently lost one of my cichlids and could not find him for two days. in that time period I had a huge ammonia and nitrate/nitrite spike. in about 2 more days my water levels were perfect again. however, after a week now I am seeing flashing and some other odd behavior. as I am new to cichlids, is this the normal goofy behavior of the multies, or is there something wrong? I would definitely like to treat this asap if possible, and any advice on this type of fish would be seriously appreciated.

I would keep a close eye on the water readings and be extra vigilant with the water change routine.

I'm guessing that there was some irritation to the gills during the ammonia spike. Keeping the water pristine will help to avoid infection.

Also multis will run their belly in the sand to rearrange the sand. Mine are constantly moving sand and shells around to their liking.

I've seen them dig and rearrange the sand plenty of times. This flashing is happening on the rocks I have in the tank. Thanks for the advice though mikem691!!!!
