Aquarium Advice FINatic
I set up a 10 gal QT tank and my 75 gal on 7/16. Doing fishless cycling on both, adding clear ammonia. The 75 is coming along fine, and the QT was doing great until yesterday, things started getting screwy.
Here are the readings for the QT from the start:
7/19 ammonia 0.5-1.0, nitrite 0.5
7/21 ammonia 5.0, nitrite 5.0
7/22 didn't test ammonia or nitrites; nitrates about 7
7/24 ammonia 0, nitrite 5+, nitrate about 7
7/26 ammonia 0, nitrite 5+, nitrate 7-8
7/29 didn't test ammonia; nitrite 5, nitrate 7-8
7/31 ammonia 4-6, nitrite 2-3, nitrate 7-8
8/1 ammonia 6, nitrite 0, nitrates off the chart
On Friday 7/30 I moved a silk plant I had in the cycling QT to my established 10 gal with the betta and 4 otos. When I got the wacky readings yesterday, I moved it back to the QT. Could that have messed things up? That's the only thing I can think of.
Anyway, what should I do to get back on track? Should I do maybe a 50% water change in the QT?
I could kick myself for moving that plant, I wasn't thinking. :x
