Homemade Live Rock

As anyone tried doing the homemade live rock route? I have heard people mentioning this, just haven't heard anyone doing it. If you have done it what was your outcome? Good/Bad?

i have seen many with good outcomes, but the trouble is, you will have to keep changing out the water it cures in over and over before you actually use it in your tank, or it will throw the ph off the charts. i have seen guys use the toilet tank to do so- a water change with every flush. you can't fit any big rocks in there though...
