can i get away with using incandescent lighting in a 10 gallon hospital tank?.....i know that it puts out more heat.....being as a hospital tank, can i get by with it? (as opposed to flourescent lighting)

Yup, you sure can. We have incandescent lights on our QT. Lights really aren't a must for one anyways.

You can get one of those spiral fluorescent bulbs that screw into an incandescent socket. They only cost 2 - 4 dollars and are alot cooler than regular incandescents. When I have fish in my QT tank, I put the spiral bulb on an 8 hour timer - fish have circadian rhythms like us, and don't behave normally if they're kept in the dark for several days.

If you don't have a hood for the QT tank, just leave the room lights on during the day.

thanks qtoffer........have heard about the screw in flourescent into a inc. hood.......am going to home depot as soon as i hit the enter key
