How many fish to put in a 55 gallon

I just got a 55 gallon was wondering about how many fish i could stock it with ik people use that funny rule but i kinda want to know in numbers how many please.

What type of fish are you talking about?

African cichlids

It does depend on which type of Africans.

I would say forget about Haps in a 55 but peacocks and Mbuna you could do.
For Mbuna I would say 20 or so depending on which ones and for peacocks 15 to 20 should be fine.
